Cala Benirras - Ibiza's Sunset Beach

A compact guide to the bay: sunsets, the Sunday drum ritual, parking, how to get there and where to eat.

Hidden in a pine-framed cove on Ibizas north coast, Cala Benirras is one of the island's most loved beaches. A small bay of clear turquoise water, red-gold cliffs and a bohemian spirit, it lies just beyond Sant Miquel, around 35 minutes by car from Ibiza Town. It is also home to Elements Ibiza, the beach club and restaurant right on the sand.

Here is everything you need to plan your visit: the sunset, the Sunday drums, how to get here, where to park and where to eat by the sea.

The Benirras sunset

Benirras faces north-west, straight at the open horizon, which is why its sunset is considered one of the best in Ibiza. As the light turns gold, the silhouette of Cap Bernat becomes the centerpiece of the bay. Arrive early in summer, find your place on the sand, or reserve a sunset dinner on our seafront terrace and watch the whole show from your table.

The Sunday drum ritual

Every Sunday towards evening, Benirras fills with the sound of drums. What began as a hippie tradition decades ago is now the island's most famous free ritual: drummers gather on the beach and play the sun down while the whole bay claps in rhythm. Sundays are by far the busiest day at the cove, so if you want a table for the drum ritual and dinner, book ahead.

How to get to Benirras

By car, follow the road north through Sant Miquel de Balansat and continue over the hill to the cove. In high season there are also seasonal bus connections to the Sant Miquel area. Arriving by boat? The bay is a favourite anchorage; you can swim or dinghy ashore for dinner.

Eating and drinking at Benirras

Elements Ibiza sits directly on the beach: a beach club and Mediterranean restaurant with a kitchen open all day, from brunch by the beach to fresh fish, rice dishes and cocktails as the sun goes down. Around the club you will also find our boutique and holistic massage space, so a beach day can easily become a whole day.

On Sundays, starting during the late afternoon and building up to sunset. The ritual happens year-round but is at its biggest from May to October.

Is Benirras good for the sunset?

Yes. It is one of the few beaches in Ibiza facing the setting sun over the water, with Cap Bernat framed in the middle of the bay.

How do I book a sunset dinner?

Through our booking page. For Sundays we recommend booking several days in advance.
